Saint Francis - Wooden Figure

Saint Francis is a 15" tall wooden figure hand-made by artisans in the highlands of Guatemala, Central America.
 
Made from pine wood, the carving is done by men, and both men and women contribute to the painting, a traditional craft provides supplementary income for the primarily subsistence farming families.
 
This statue holds deep cultural significance, blending catholic beliefs with mayan traditions, and is commonly found in family shrines.
